Great White Shark vs Velociraptor: longer by how much?
A great white shark measures 4.75 m (15.6 ft) end to end, and a Velociraptor measures 1.9 m (6.23 ft) end to end. A Velociraptor would have to grow by 150% to match a great white shark, which is 2.50 times its length. Take 2 Velociraptors laid end to end and you reach 3.8 m (12.5 ft), still 95 cm (37.4 in) short of a great white shark; one more would overshoot by 95 cm (37.4 in). A great white shark and a Velociraptor are both written in single metres, so the 2.50-to-one gap has to be read off the digits rather than off the unit.

Both figures, Great White Shark and Velociraptor, come from the Size It Up measurement set, one real-world size and one measured axis per object, last checked in September 2026; outline provenance is listed on the sources page.
Why this one is hard to judge by eye
A great white shark is drawn about 2.50 times as wide as a Velociraptor as well as 2.50 times its length, so the area it takes in the frame grows faster than the figure anyone quotes. Both shapes fit in a single glance here, which ought to make 2.50 to one obvious between a great white shark and a Velociraptor, and it is not: at this size the eye compares whole outlines while the figures above compare one axis.
What each figure covers
Great White Shark. Great white sharks are measured total length, snout to the tip of the upper tail lobe. Females run larger than males, which is why the sex is part of the figure.
Velociraptor. Velociraptor is quoted nose to tail, and the animal was about the size of a large turkey. The creatures in the films are a different genus entirely, scaled far larger.
A great white shark and a Velociraptor are both quoted as a length, which is what makes the ratio above a like-for-like figure.
What else is about that size?
Measured the same way, Great White Shark at 4.75 m sits within a tenth of Land Rover Defender 110 at 4.6 m, London Black Cab at 4.6 m and Southern Elephant Seal at 4.9 m. Velociraptor at 1.9 m has Bicycle at 1.7 m, Alpine Ibex at 1.6 m and Atlantic Bluefin Tuna at 2.2 m for company, within a quarter. Swapping any of those in for a great white shark would move its ratio to a Velociraptor by less than 10%.
