Komodo Dragon vs Bearded Dragon: the size gap, measured
A Komodo dragon measures 2.4 m (7.87 ft) end to end, and a bearded dragon measures 50 cm (19.7 in) end to end. A Komodo dragon comes to 4.80 times the length of a bearded dragon, a difference of 1.9 m (6.23 ft). Take 4 bearded dragons laid end to end and you reach 2 m (6.56 ft), still 40 cm (15.7 in) short of a Komodo dragon; one more would overshoot by 10 cm (3.94 in). A Komodo dragon is written in single metres and a bearded dragon in tens of centimetres, a whole band of scale apart.

Both figures, Komodo Dragon and Bearded Dragon, come from the Size It Up measurement set, one real-world size and one measured axis per object, last checked in September 2026; outline provenance is listed on the sources page.
Why this one is hard to judge by eye
A Komodo dragon is drawn about 4.80 times as wide as a bearded dragon as well as 4.80 times its length, so the area it takes in the frame grows faster than the figure anyone quotes. Both shapes fit in a single glance here, which ought to make 4.80 to one obvious between a Komodo dragon and a bearded dragon, and it is not: at this size the eye compares whole outlines while the figures above compare one axis.
What each figure covers
Komodo Dragon. Komodo dragons are quoted total length, tail included, and the tail is roughly half of it. They are the largest lizard alive, and this is an average rather than a record.
Bearded Dragon. Bearded dragons are quoted nose to tail tip. Well over half of that is tail, so body length alone is roughly half the number given.
A Komodo dragon and a bearded dragon are both quoted as a length, which is what makes the ratio above a like-for-like figure.
What else is about that size?
Measured the same way, Komodo Dragon at 2.4 m sits within a tenth of Bull Shark at 2.4 m, Harley Davidson at 2.4 m and Horse at 2.4 m. Bearded Dragon at 50 cm has Pink Salmon at 50 cm, Chinchilla at 40 cm and Toco Toucan at 60 cm for company, within a quarter. Swapping any of those in for a Komodo dragon would move its ratio to a bearded dragon by less than 10%.
