Optimus Prime vs Treebeard: taller by how much?
Optimus Prime measures 8.5 m (27.9 ft) from the ground up, and Treebeard measures 4.3 m (14.1 ft) from the ground up. Treebeard would have to grow by 98% to match Optimus Prime, which is 1.98 times its height. Put the other way round, Treebeard covers 51% of Optimus Prime on the axis both are judged on. Optimus Prime and Treebeard are both written in single metres, and the 98% between them is the whole of the difference.
| Object | Real size | Axis measured | What the figure covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Optimus Prime | 8.5 m 27.9 ft |
Height | Transformers |
| Treebeard | 4.3 m 14.1 ft |
Height | LOTR |
Both figures, Optimus Prime and Treebeard, come from the Size It Up measurement set, one real-world size and one measured axis per object, last checked in September 2026; outline provenance is listed on the sources page.
Why this one is hard to judge by eye
Optimus Prime is drawn about 2.65 times as wide as Treebeard as well as 1.98 times its height, so the area it takes in the frame grows faster than the figure anyone quotes. Optimus Prime sits in the range with no handy yardstick: too big to hold against anything you have carried, too small to need a horizon, so it and Treebeard end up filed under the same vague heading of very large.
What each figure covers
Optimus Prime. The height is the live-action film design. The animated original was quoted far smaller, and the two have almost nothing in common at scale.
Treebeard. Tolkien wrote fourteen feet, one of very few invented creatures in this set with a figure from the author. Film designs have gone considerably higher.
Optimus Prime and Treebeard are both quoted as a height, which is what makes the ratio above a like-for-like figure.
What else is about that size?
Measured the same way, Optimus Prime at 8.5 m sits within a tenth of AT-ST Walker at 8.6 m and TIE Fighter at 8.8 m. Treebeard at 4.3 m has Steelix at 4.45 m, Bumblebee at 4.9 m and Groudon at 3.5 m for company, within a quarter. Swapping any of those in for Optimus Prime would move its ratio to Treebeard by less than 10%.
