How big is a Triceratops next to an alpine ibex?
A Triceratops measures 8.5 m (27.9 ft) end to end, and an alpine ibex measures 1.6 m (5.25 ft) end to end. A Triceratops comes to 5.31 times the length of an alpine ibex, a difference of 6.9 m (22.6 ft). Take 5 alpine ibexes laid end to end and you reach 8 m (26.2 ft), still 50 cm (19.7 in) short of a Triceratops; one more would overshoot by 1.1 m (3.61 ft). A Triceratops and an alpine ibex are both written in single metres, so the 5.31-to-one gap has to be read off the digits rather than off the unit.

Why this one is hard to judge by eye
A Triceratops is drawn about 5.31 times as wide as an alpine ibex as well as 5.31 times its length, so the area it takes in the frame grows faster than the figure anyone quotes. A Triceratops sits in the range with no handy yardstick: too big to hold against anything you have carried, too small to need a horizon, so it and an alpine ibex end up filed under the same vague heading of very large. On the drawing above a Triceratops is about 2.56 times as wide as it is tall and an alpine ibex about 1.01 times as wide as it is tall, so the two outlines fill the frame in ways that have nothing to do with the one axis being compared.
What each figure covers
Triceratops. Triceratops is measured nose to tail, and up to a third of that is skull. It carried one of the largest heads of any land animal that has ever lived.
Alpine Ibex. Ibex are quoted body length, nose to rump, with the tail and the horns left out. The horns of an old male can add most of a metre on their own.
A Triceratops and an alpine ibex are both quoted as a length, which is what makes the ratio above a like-for-like figure.
What else is about that size?
Measured the same way, Triceratops at 8.5 m sits within a quarter of Football Goal at 7.56 m, Killer Whale at 7.3 m and Stegosaurus at 7 m. Alpine Ibex at 1.6 m has Bicycle at 1.7 m and Velociraptor at 1.9 m for company, within a quarter. Swapping any of those in for a Triceratops would move its ratio to an alpine ibex by less than 25%.
